The Woodsboro Town Council met today at 7:00 PM in the Fire Hall with the following members present:

 

            Burgess Trimmer, Commissioners Morgan, Hub and Smith.  Absent was Commissioner

            Kline.

 

The meeting was called to order by Burgess Trimmer who led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Guest attending the meeting was Ms. Sandra Dalton, Clerk of Circuit Court and Ms. Ingrid Mezo representing the Gazette newspaper.  Also in attendance was two citizens.

 

The meeting opened with the swearing in of the two new Commissioners and the Burgess by Ms. Sandra Dalton, Clerk of Circuit Court.  At this time Roger Hub, outgoing Commissioner stepped down and Scott Brakebill took his seat.  Burgess Trimmer presented Roger Hub with a plaque of appreciation for all his years of service on the Board and to the town.

 

After a brief review of the May minutes and there being no corrections or additions, the council approved them. 

 

After a brief review of the May Financial Statement and there being no additions or corrections, the council approved them 3 – 0.

 

Burgess Trimmer reported on several items.  The CCR report is completed, met all criteria and the ad ran in the June 14th edition of the Frederick News Post.  A motion by Commissioner Morgan and seconded by Commissioner Smith to officially adopt the proposed budget presented at the May meeting was passed 3 – 0.

 

The next line of business was on the Trash Fee.  Burgess Trimmer opened discussion on the $20 quarterly fee effective July 1, 2005.  The first fee collection will be on the October 2005 water and sewer billing.  Burgess Trimmer explained to everyone how the Land Fill fee has jumped from $9 a ton to $15 a ton forcing the town to begin billing.  After a brief discussion on the matter a motion was passed to assess each unit a $20 quarterly fee.  The motion was passed 3 – 0.

 

Burgess reported on a letter going out to all residents who own property around our wells.  The letter sent by the Maryland Department of the Environment advised that the Town of Woodsboro has asked for our ground water daily pull be increased.

 

Commissioner Brakebill reported on Planning and Zoning informing the group that they are reviewing text for amendment.

 

Commissioner Morgan reported that Wolfe and Sons are currently working on the road and paths in the park.

 

Burgess Trimmer opened discussion on the possibility of hiring a part time Code Enforcer in the Town of Woodsboro.  He also informed the group of a conversation he had with Charles Heath, the town’s Planning and Zoning coordinator.  Mr. Heath informed the town that the county has asked him to cut back his hours and it would be in our best interest for Woodsboro to pursue hiring their own part time planner.

 

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
